MBC Bible study groups support the challenges of 1st Peter.
When Peter wrote to his fellow believers, he called them temporary residents.
Reflecting on that description brought memories of an old hymn, “This World is Not My
Home: …I’m just a passin’ through. My treasures are laid up, somewhere beyond
the blue…”
I’m fortunate to have had a pastor years ago who modeled living life with an eternal
perspective. His actions impacted me then, and continue to encourage me to do the same. He
invested his time, money, and influence to point people to Jesus. Remember: we have a great
inheritance that keeps us looking forward: something, somewhere, Someone; treasures kept in
Heaven.
Regardless of suffering, we may face today, God IS here for our present, and for eternity!
He notices our suffering and uses it for our good. Throughout Biblical history, prophets and
others knew this to be true, and somehow they understood that life is about more than ‘just
here; just now.’
Maintaining an eternal perspective about events and circumstances encourages us.
Recognizing that life counts helps keep you on a Godly track; it does for me. All of us have
friends and family who watch us; who hope our walk matches our talk. We need each other for
encouragement, support, and help to walk our pilgrim journey! Trust, entrust yourself to Him.
Our faithful Creator… heavenly Father… the One who loves us.
Don’t allow circumstances to surprise you… instead rejoice. Judgment begins with God’s
people—remember: ‘if’ we barely make it, what about others who disobey the gospel of God?
This removes haughty judgment too.
Serve God humbly, so that He may exalt you. Cast all your care on Him because He cares
for you. “We demonstrate our humility by casting our cares/anxiety on Him, 5:6-7. We
demonstrate by intentional actions that display our dependence on God for help.”
Peter’s instructions: Be sober. Be alert. Identify/know your adversary. Remember you
are NOT singled out for suffering… Live with eternity in view.
